I’m already pretty pumped about this.

To be clear: I don’t think the Wire has all the right answers. It may not even ask the right questions. It is certainly not some flawless piece of narrative, and as many good arguments about real stuff can be made criticizing the drama as praising it. But yes, the people who made the Wire did so to stir actual shit. We thought some prolonged arguments about what kind of country we’ve built might be a good thing, and if such arguments and discussions ever happen, we will feel more vindicated in purpose than if someone makes an argument for why The Wire is the best show in years. (“Buffy,” by the way, was the correct answer to that particular bracketfest.)

By David Simon on his new blog, The Audacity of Despair. Yes you should read the whole post.

But I loved just about everything about this paragraph, including the Buffy shout out.

Chromeo doing a stripped down version of “Don’t Walk Away” for the very cool Yours Truly group.

I stumbled upon this video series from Refinery29 this afternoon. I love videos of creative people doing their thing. Earlier today I also saw this feature in Travel + Leisure about America’s Best Cities for Hipsters, which ranked the cities based on live music, coffee shops, independent boutiques, microbrews, offbeat locals and tech savvy. Though not explicitly stated, it seemed like good food also made an impression. The term “hipster” basically means nothing at this point and I’m starting to think it’s just what older generations call the current 20-35 crowd. If Travel + Leisure’s criteria are a current definition, then I guess I’m a hipster. Give me good local food and beer, live music and a cool store any day. I just call that liking a nice neighborhood.

I’ve got some places to go.

My dreamy image for today

This freaking show. The Parenthood cast all came together to make this music video of a cover of “Girl on TV” that Mae Whitman’s (Amber on the show) boyfriend, Landon Pigg sang. The season finale is this week, which is a huge bummer it’s so early, but I can’t wait to see what happens. This season has been pretty stellar thus far. Then again, show creator Jason Katims, and the writer behind Friday Night Lights, can’t do much wrong in my eyes.

Now who wants to move to Berkeley with me?

Um….Garance is making videos now? She’s so adorable.

Here’s a skit from the SNL with Maya Rudolph and it’s all about Blue Ivy! And Bon Iver. All good things, then.

If you are a living, breathing human who attended an educational institution at some point in your life, then you’re familiar with that awful sinking feeling that rolls through around 5PM every Sunday. You’re having a grand old time, watching football or playing Wii Badminton or reading, or whatever you enjoy doing in your cherished spare time and then, like clockwork, the doom sets in. A whole new week is about to unfold before you. You’ve barely had time to process the one you just finished and then — Oh Hey — yet another week is here. There’s so much to be done: homework, clean your room so you can actually see the floor, put away laundry from three weeks ago. But alas, you have one disc left of Season 3 of Dawson’s Creek, so all that stuff can wait. And it seems that as long as you’re chillin by the creek with Dawson and Joey, Monday morning isn’t actually closing in on you.
